I purchased a hinged Super inline carrier from Tim Mason a few years back that supposedly doesn't need an indented door, otherwise the hinge is useless. However I still found it too tight given the rounder and profile on modern tyres. I got around it by putting a 3.00 x 10 tyre onto my spare, not perfect but good enough to get me home.
