hi, hope this doesn't sound like a daft question but where abouts should the feeler gauges be placed on the endplate when measuring the endfloat on the large gear shim ? thanks for any info ;)

I always make sure the hub is torqued.
The way I was taught to measure in my apprenticeship was to make sure the feeler guage one size below passes and the feeler guage one size above doesn't pass.

Does the feelef need to be inserted right up to the shaft as iirc isnt there a 'boss' under the bearing seat or does it only need to go in 10mm or so . Sorry if this sounds like a dumb question.

I believe so.... the shim should rotate, hence the gap. Otherwise you'd be measuring from the shim to the plate and the gap would be way to big...

Also make sure you use nuts and torque them unlike in my photo...!!!
