Have you forgot to put the shim under the gear cluster i wonder resulting in the 4th gear rubbing on the casing, easily done.

HxPaul wrote:In my PM to you on the 22nd June I suggested that it could be the selector curser catching on first or second gear,I also suggested that you might have a gear in the wrong way around.Seeing as you are stripping the gearbox to have a look, you might pay special attention to these areas.

Checked for selector catching as per stickys book - No evidence, and gears all correct way round again as per stickys - cheers

Just wondering, did you ever get to find out what was causing your engine issue?

Interested to hear the outcome, still sounds to me like a tightly meshed gear as the noise is not constant but seems to go in 'waves'.

Hope you got it sorted whatever it was.

hi sorry for long absence - been away 0n holidays - basically stripped right down again (inc RR wheel) clutch out, gears out selectors etc etc - rebuilt and re- shimmed and everything is fine - I think the rear wheel may have not been tightened up to correct torque which in turn was effecting all clearances.

Thanks for all your advice - could not have done it without you !
