Date my Engine?

Postby StuMc » Sat Dec 01, 2018 12:15 pm

I'm a scooter newbie and I've got a 1975 Li150 Special [Serveta] that I am in the process of renovating ready for next year. Can anyone help with dating the engine before I start any tinkering with it. The serial numbers of the frame and engine don't match, the engine is stamped '150LI797037' - any advice welcome, thanks Stuart

cut and pasted from British Lambretta Archive. Looks like it's from a series 3 Li special

Series 3:

Li 125: Frame: Either 125Li or 125Li3* followed by numbers starting from 000,001 - Engine: 125Li* followed by numbers starting from 000,001
Li 150: Frame: 150Li3* followed by numbers starting from 600,001 - Engine: 150Li* followed by numbers starting from 600,001
*Note: The Li 150 engine numbers go up into the 700,001 range and confusion can arise as the Li 150 Special engines also feature within that number range.

TV 175: Frame: 175TV3* followed by numbers starting from 500,001 - Engine: 175TV/2* followed by numbers starting from 500,001
TV 200: Frame: TV3* followed by numbers starting at 512*** - Engine: TV/2* followed by numbers starting at 512***
*Note: The TV 175's and TV 200's were built in batches and it is impossible to say exactly which number sequences were allocated to each machine.

Li 125 Special: Frame: 125LiS* followed by numbers starting from 850,001 - Engine: 125LiS* followed by numbers starting at 850,001
Li 150 Special: Frame: 150LiS* followed by numbers starting at 200,001 - Engine: 150Li* followed by numbers starting at 700,001
*Note: See the note above in respect of the Series 3 Li 150 engine numbers.

If it has the stamp and is marked innocenti before the number its Italian,if has just the star its Spanish.https://www.google.com/search?safe=stri ... nFnlhCLYzM:

Just checked -its got the Innocenti stamp followed by 150LI*797037 so I guess that makes it Italian, from the 60's?
