Spare Wheel Holder Issue?

Postby StuMc » Mon Mar 18, 2019 1:42 pm

I've fitted a spare wheel holder inside the leg shield [www.scooterrestorations.com/lambretta/inside-legshield-spare-wheel-carrier-series-3-without-paint/]

Fits on the top of the leg shield and then bolted. Fitted nicely to the Scooter, but when I try to fit a spare wheel, the spare wheel and tyre fouls against the leg shield top and bottom of the wheel, as it seems the bolts are not long enough, or the spare wheel holder is too close to the leg shield? Can't change the position if the leg shield obviously.

Any ideas? Any suggestions?

Cheers

Have you got the wheel the right way round?

You could try using connector nuts to hold the wheel further out?

Doesn't seem to affect it whatever way round it is?

Connector nuts might be an idea? Anyone tried this or any examples?

cheers

Photo's paint a thousand words!

If you can upload a photo and then I am sure someone on here can sort this out for you; its not upside down by any chance is it?

definitely the right way up - simply looks like the bolts need to be much longer with some sort of adapter as the wheel won't go on - it hits at the top and bottom [12 o'clock and 6 o'clock] on the leg shield?

I agree it shouldn't need spacers, but it won't work without them....

Got some of the spacers as suggested and it now works a treat - with a spare wheel cover over it no-one will ever know ;)

Looks like you've sorted it. I had exactly same issue with same part same supplier. Tyre touched legshield at top and bottom. Mine was supplied with plastic spacers for the bottom fixing to legshield but still tyre touched.

Are you using the rubber sleeves over the top hooks? I found that with these the hooks didn't sit down around the beading, opened up hooks to fix that. Then a bit of bending the top and bottom arms to make it sit further away from legshields.

not wide rims/tyres - so not sure why?

Used the rubber spacers and it grips the beading nicely, couldn't bend it any more or the screws would not fit at the bottom.
