Stalling

Postby Geocamper » Sat Jul 20, 2019 7:31 pm

Out on a spin recently and my lambretta cut out. It started back up on one kick and carried on riding until I got home when again the lambretta cut out. Sounded like it was bogging down then cut out. I thought maybe the idle jet had a bit of crud stuck in it but when I checked it looked clean. I blew the idle jet out just in case and also cleaned the bowl out which was clean anyway. Everything looks ok inside the carb(phbh 28). When I start the lambretta it sounds fine through the power range with no loss of power. Running a RT195. Im at a loss to this issue. Any help would be appreciated.

Have you checked for an air leak at exhaust manifold or cylinder head, in particular?

Could be a split carb rubber. As it starts to split you can get your symptom of not idling properly.

Could also be a sign of imminent LT stator coil failure.

** Thread resurrection **

Similar issues with my TS1, starts and goes okay, but when out and about it will look to stall at junctions and traffic lights. So I need to sit and rev like a teenager to keep it going.
Seems to be searching, struggling to just tick over.
Out earlier I stopped in a local town - as I pulled up in the lay-by it stalled. I was there for about 10 mins (as planned) but when I went to restart it took about 20-30 kicks to get going again. Sometimes it’ll take one kick then other times it’ll take a bunch and be a PitA.
It’s a bit spluttery at lower speed but pulls like a train once in the power band.

TS1 230
35mm Mikuni
Franspeed Tourer
Plug: just changed from a Champion N3 (was a bit oily but chocolate brown) to a Denso W24ES
Runs on Super Unleaded

I have a new HT Lead and Cap and CDI here in my spares. Worth starting with these?

Any suggestions where to start greatly appreciated.

Looks like it was the air screw all along. Setting was just a tad optimistic - now changed to 1+3/4

Sits and ticks over nicely with panels off / on so hopefully okay. Will need a good run around the town to test.
Thanks !
