Speedo 1963 Li150

Postby mick996r » Mon Feb 24, 2020 10:01 pm

My speedo cable turns clockwise when I spin the front wheel (forward). My cheap replacement MPH speedo will only work when I spin it anti-clockwise. Which is correct? Does anybody know?

The speedo cable spins counter-clockwise. You can test the speedo using a drill in the reverse setting and the tip from an old speedo cable.

Thank you for the response. Mine definitely spins clockwise. So I must have fitted the speedo drive on the hub the wrong way round, if there are two ways something will fit I will always put it on the wrong way round. So strip the hub out again, grind it off and fit another one. What a pain in the a5se!

The drive that fits on the hub only fits one way,if you reverse it,it spins in the same direction.https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lambretta-sp ... SwzsNcwJHx

If you stick an old bit of cable in to the drive and spin the wheel forward the cable will spin clockwise as you look at it. If you spin the bottom of the cable anti clockwise whilst disconnected the speedo will flicker positively. The fact that the cable goes into the drive and spins anti clockwise is down to which way you look at it. IE: Look into the drive and it is clockwise, look away from the drive and it is going anti clockwise. Hard to explain so I hope you know what I mean.

Thanks for the response's. The speedo drive hub will rotate the same way which ever way round it is fitted to the hub. However, the helix teeth (for want of a better word) are angled, so from one way the teeth will be angled to the right and the other way the teeth will be angled to the left. So in theory the input from the drive hub will have the effect of changing the rotation of the cable. I am just going to have to strip it out and have a look. Because, as it now is 2 off speedo's (MPH and KPH)
do not work.
