Any help would be much appreciated.

Sounds like a case of arse covering exercise, 4% if using plain oul mineral oil but very few actually use it. 3% on semi and if ur brave 2% on fully synthetic
Everyone has their own take of oil percentage
ToBoldlyGo wrote:Four percent is overkill. I only ever run three on everything.

The engine was built by a highly recommended and trusted scooter guy. as above mine is smokey on start up but clears once on the move.

If you have any top end or crank issues with it You won’t have any come back if he knows you have ignored his instructions. I run both my steel lined TS1 and my ceramic lined 283 motor at 4%.
dscscotty wrote:I advocate and advise 4% in all my motors despite what experts, oil companies and websites say, that big end needs lubing, in building crankshafts on a regular basis I see only to much the unwanted affects of not using the correct ratio's I'm sure someone will be along shortly to put the 3% case forward, if it works, it works, had to much success in both competition and road wise to change now, if the person building it knows what they're doing and giving you advice its always worth while to take note, if its smoking its more likely to be down to another issue or the type of oil being used, good luck and enjoy.

They were never designed to allow your engine to use less especially on old air cooled engines that struggle to cool properly anyway.
A properly set up engine running at 4% should not be smokey after it has warmed up.
Smokey engines usually indicate incorrect carburation, leaky oil seal, iffy halite washer, twisted crank webs or a worn drive side bearing.
