Italian sx forks onto an indingp frame.
Will it work, gp stem transplanted

From the way you describe it, the SX fork stem will still be about an inch too long.

I would be tempted to buy some replacement GP forks and sell-on the SX forks to finance the purchase.

As it happens the SX forks are 2" short, came out of a cut down but have disc links and I have the disc hub
I've got a gp stem to weld on. Just don't fancy all the potential mix and match issues.
Read something in an old scootering about Indian gp bottom bearing cup being different.

You could mess around no end with this only to find it easier, better and cheaper to fit the right forks for the frame.

Maybe I should rephrase,
Is there a technical difference between Li series and gp forks other than stem length.

Other than the push-in buffers of the GP forks and the length of the stem, the forks are the same as Li.

Just to add my two-pennyworth.....

Fork length conversions have existed for decades, usually shortening. The generic design between GP & SI - SIII is identical with variances only in construction of the fork link boots & buffer retention & steering 'stop' lug positioning.

My preferred means of altering the length is by use of an external tube machined to size to provide a tight fit welded into place. The alternative of a bar fitted inside works as well, but needs boring if a speedo cable &/or a hydraulic line are to be used.

To use up forks that have no other place to go, I would have no hesitation in modifying them, given a good standard of competence in engineering & welding/brazing. More so if mates are available that will do so for a pint or two. :D
