My thoughts are that there were conversion damper kits available once specifically for attachment via special axle nuts, rather than 175/200 damper links that should have therefore not only had greater travel but less damping affect. That said, I have only ever seen them fitted once so conclude that they are rarer than an honest Tory.....
However.......most of us have surely encountered dampers that have failed & dismantled them purely out of curiosity, or is it just me?
Rheotorical question, as I do know of a guy that repaired a pair by managing to fix leaking seals.
In which case, with care, I reckon a pair of dampers can be refurbished which also allows for a change in oil weight, in your case the choice being a lighter grade.
