Extended top hats for rear brake

I am after one longer than this please. Does anyone know a supplier?

Jem Booth used to get them made but no longer does. Lincs Lambretta had one advertised on eBay with some less than complimentary feedback as to fit.

Yeah, I have seen that one too, Gaz. It looks no longer to me, sadly.

I believe beedspeed do an extended one if your really desperate. Could you have a couple made. K2 customs or local engineering shop. Smile and act dumb and they might do it cheapish ;)

I have thought of getting a couple made up locally. I am not desperate enough to consider our friends from Grimsby. Thanks for the reply though :)

This may sound a daft question but why do you need them?

Routing of cable over TS1 inlet manifold and around spark plug. I have a short extended top hat in the frame at the moment (the same as my photo I suspect) but it could do with a tiny bit more loop to clear the plug. If someone made longer cable outers, you wouldn’t need to bother.

Scooter Loopy John definitely used to make them. You can find him on eBay as “bigbadbarry”, which is odd cos he’s a lovely bloke.

I need it extending by a good centimetre so don’t want to use washers, mate. I’ll try and contact John Madison. Thanks, Martin.

Thanks, Shane. Yes, the longer one is what I am after. I did see these but I also saw some negative feedback saying they didn’t fit. If John Madison can’t help, I will try one as the Lincs advert does say that returns are accepted.

I know but it would be a pain in the arse to unclip the cable, to gain access to it, to then find it doesn’t fit.

John Madison was checking whether he had one for me. If he doesn’t, I’ll buy the Lincs one.

As I have never encountered such a requirement, please excuse my ignorance :D but, I think if an extension to the OEM top hat could be gained by fitting an item such as in the link herewith:

https://www.mandp.co.uk/products/6mm-th ... ble-594320

Of course, that example may not be suitable, so a thorough check on the OEM cable (inner & outer) as well as the OEM top hat would need to be done, but I imagine a standard top hat drilled/tapped to suit an adjuster would result in an 'adjustable' top hat. Obviously, the adjuster would be fitted front side of the rear shock mount.

Just to finish this thread off, I took a couple of pictures to show where I am now. I have two extenders fitted front and back and this gives a nice shallow loop over the inlet manifold and away from the plug cap.

As an aside, I do recommend rear brake cables that are nylon lined. I’d never had one until about 6 months ago. They make for a nice smooth action.

Oh and, yes, the next time the engine as out, I’ll get the stripped thread in the casing sorted :D

I like the braided brake cable, where did you get it from?

Glad you have it sorted which did you go with in the end?

The cable is from MB. Scooter loopy John (John Madison) provided the extended tip hats. I could have probably got away with one, just.

I do have very limited stock of my XL version of my QR2 cables - which are designed to go over the engine mount and over an LTH manifold on an RB cylinder with a mammoth head - happy to send you a video of the routing if it helps - they are longer than the normal QR2 cable as I like this routing for the race scooters.....
