Gear selection problems

Postby Osti80 » Wed May 25, 2022 8:39 pm

Recently rebuilt my golden special, standard li150 box.

Replaced the sliding dog (casa), spring and ball bearings, and cable set.

The sliding dog moves up and down the layshaft without the gears in, build up the box and end plate etc and it is solid, and won’t select the gears.

Any ideas on what I’ve done wrong?.

A bit strange but I've experienced something similar, in the past, so now prefer to use refaced OEM cursors (sliding dogs)

What can occur is that the legs of the sliding dog can spring out due to their metallurgy/spring combination, as unlikely as that may sound.

Presumably, you could refit your old sliding dog/spring to prove that issue, but worth mentioning, in any case, is that gearbox/endplate clearance are always best set up without the gear cluster in place. It saves so much time in achieving the critical dimension & once that has been established, the cluster can go into place for the final check.

I hope that helps.... ;)
