The mythical scooter

Postby Knowledge » Wed Aug 03, 2022 10:53 pm

I drove past a small motorcycle dealer this week. Unexpectedly, there was a Vespa for sale. I stopped to ask about it but during the conversation the guy said that him and his mate had uncovered a hoard of motorcycles with one Lambretta in the collection. The owner had passed away and the widow was looking to offload the lot.

The Lambretta, he assured me, was a 200cc electric start model from the Sixties. Well, if it is, it ain’t one from the factory.

He says he will send photos. I look forward to receiving them but in the meantime, shall we start some idle speculation?

It’s just for fun. Go.

I suppose the Dynastart (like that had been utilised on the earlier Ld's) could have been adapted to fit a later model. I believe that the same starters were used on many makes of engines so not necessarily Lambretta derived.....

So I got some photos and the mythical scooter is an Ld150 AVV electric start. It looks like someone stripped it and started to prepare it for paint. Iit looks solid and there are certainly lots of parts.

Contact me if you fancy a restoration of one of the less common Ld models, and I might be able to get it for you.

I am in Ipswich.
