Bump Stop (lack of)

I am planning a small block build, I have a couple of engine cases, however they are both ex-racers and have had the bump stop removed.

I guess the point of a bump stop is a hard limit on suspension travel (saves bottoming out shock or tyre hitting mudguard) and a back up in case of a broken shock..
However, practically speaking do any of the above happen if you have a decent shock?

so my conundrum:
-run without bump stop, and take the chance my shock will never break.
-reweld an old or fabricate and weld a new bump stop.
-give up, scrap the old cases, and find a small block case with a bump stop.

any opinions?

I had a Biturbo shock snap on me with a bump stop :o , that was bad enough, I'd hate to think what it'd bean like without one :?
