Seized front hub wheel nuts

Postby Madstadblues » Thu Jun 19, 2014 3:15 pm

The wheel nuts on my TV front hub are stuck solid (assuming they are not reverse thread  ). Any suggestions of un-seizing them would be great.

Use a long power bar and a single hex socket, they are r/h thread. If you have access to a gas welding kit (use a smallish welding nozzle 3-5) this will keep the spread of heat to a minimum. Keep the nozzle pointing away from the brake hub and forks and just quickly heat up one side of the nut. This should shift it if the long power bar doesn't.

I suspect that the advice from Tractor,an will work, but don't forget that the spark plug socket fits your nuts (and your oil filler cap). Pouring boiling water over one of the nuts might get things moving if you haven't got access to other heat sources.

If all else fails, you could use a nut splitter (e.g. eBay item 321241394081) as this would probably work in this location.

Thanks Gents (ordered the nut splitter just in case). MSB
