Hi folks, just to let you know about a new prototype sequential gearchange system.

Personally im quite excited about this.
For most this will be solving a problem that doesnt exist.
The spin off of this would allow tle less flexible amungst us to set up our controls so we wouldnt have to suffer that burn in the wrists from pulling a clutch with our wrists folded back when in first gear.
Just quality and cost.
This could prolong the riding time for many.

Just the thing for rearset gear changes.

This looks like a good move forward for anyone with a wrist problem.

Didn't Jimmy have one of these in Quadrophenia?
Watch the scene where he picks Steph up at the supermarket -in 1st, drop down a cog -back into 1st!

Only problem I can see is with a close ratio box or 5speed ,you won't know what gear you're in hence why bikes come with gear indicators.I'd have one though...

Do they?

Neither my Griso or Bandit has one other than a neutral light.

Pretty sure most of the superbikes now have one built into the display. I used to fit the Datatool ones to the bikes I owned.

forgive my ignorance but what is a "sequential" gear shifter?

Its a gearshifter where the shift lever reverts back to its original position every time you change gear,like a motorbike except on a Lambretta its the handlebar gearshift thats used as normal.

Surely part of the fun is guessing which gear you might be in?

Could be very exciting if it works! I can think of various applications i'll be watching with interest

From a rider perspective, it works the same as this:

Good for anyone using drop bars too as the clutch lever will return to the same place after each gear change. This is usually the determining factor in where your bars can be set to ensure the clutch lever misses the leg shield when in 4th/5th which can sometimes mean that in order to miss in 4th you have to have the clutch lever almost vertical to locate 1st.

With the standard arrangement, in good working order, you can feel what gear you are in and move to any gear in the box in one move.
With a sequential arrangement it can be a bit of a guessing game and you can only move to the next gear either side of where you are in one move...... just like a motorbike.
Track racers may get an advantage with it?
Not really a step forward for road users IMO?

It might be useful for people like me who have fitted a mirror stem through the front brake lever pivot in place of the original shoulder screw.
I could have a mirror on the gear side, useful for continental trips.
