I haven’t put enough miles on it yet to make an informed comment. I have been using my other Lammy during the Winter.

This is worrying though, I agree.

Foremanbob, what sort of load have you subjected the rear to?

Could be a factor but the majority of the load is going through the spring, is the damper setting adjustable at all?

No, mate. Just the spring tension.

As regards the customer service from Scootopia, I have always found them easy to get hold of on the phone and pretty reasonable overall. I’d definitely call them.

I'm 14st... this has been 137 miles of gentle running in around town and quiet country roads. I have not hit any potholes or ramps etc

I'm a fan of Scootopia. I've dealt with them a lot, usually in person, and never had a problem. I really would give them a ring and speak to either Lee or Paul, because it's plainly at fault in this case, with its magic disappearing rod. I'm sure they'd be happy to help.

I put one on last spring and did SDR, C2C and Derby 150 on it without any issues. It's pretty decent, much better than its escort equivalent.

FB, please let us know what Scootopia say. Good luck.

No quibble refund... I actually wanted a replacement, but they only have S2's in stock just now.

Posting it back to them for their review

I’m looking at pics on a phone so it is hard to see. Did the rod sheer off?

It has disconnected from the eye at the top of the shock, and retracted into the base of the unit.

Cant see whether this was a shear or a mechanical (circlip type) fail

failure of the pin connection to the top of the shock... sheered

So, are they accepting it may be a flawed design?

Could just as easily be a manufacturing fault.

I have had a rod shear on a cheap shocker, fortunately they tend to go at low speed, mine went going over a lowered kerb off the road into a service station for fuel.
That was a recovery job and a 2 hour wait on a Sunday.
The industry does put out some crap, but surely they have a duty of care on parts that effect safety, if this happened to a new two wheeled vehicle it would be in the press and result in factory recalls.

I am sorry but my life and time is worth more than £70,BGM fitted now.

I can understand that. But there are cheap shocks that are robust and last forever. I'm sure you can get more expensive shocks that fail as well.

That makes sense when you think about it as it would be unlikely to snap under compression, more likely when it is suddenly extended as in your case it would be dropping off a kerb or over a speed bump etc.

I agree, I had a similar thing happen a couple of years ago and that went as the scoot went light over a hump in the road. http://www.ilambretta.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=6728#p56202

I put a standard Scootopia on the back of my GP a year ago, done about 2k miles, some two up and it has lost all its damping action. Like a bouncy castle now. I expected better. :|

I have just bought a second hand Pro Tech series 2 shock. The most I have ever spent on suspension I just hope it's money well spent.

You won't find much wrong with Pro Tech. I have the front and rear on my S2.
