Rear brake cable routing

Postby Tractorman » Fri Nov 17, 2017 1:36 pm

Did I see a post sometime ago regarding the routing of the rear brake cable that said it should go between the plug and the frame? I tried routing this way but it seems to be very close to the plug cap.

I believe that is correct but whatever you do, don't route it over the top of the engine mount, I did that and it worked fine until I loaded up for Adria and found that the brake was pulling on

Strangely, that detail has been missed in both versions of Sticky's book :?

That's the first thing I did was search through the Book.

It's toward the end of this page. http://lambrettarestorations.blogspot.co.uk/2011/10/installing-cables-engine-end-only.html?m=0

This blog plus stickys have been incredible for me. Working in isolation and not having a lambretta since 86 (ld125 in boxes) does not make an expert but I've been able to do pretty much everything from just those two!

Thanks for that, I note he routes the cable to the right of the plug. I have always done it this but thought I would try the other but as I posted it close to the plug cap.

As since mentioned in the responses, it appeared in Scootering.

With an open mind, considering I'd never known of the routing mentioned within the article, I tried it.....

I soon reverted to the 'norm' because plug cap & plug were painstakingly difficult to remove & replace, but that may be just the case for me.

However, I would go so far as to suggest that the cable is likely to 'work' the plug cap off in no time! Perhaps that was the reason that in the sixties/seventies there were many riders reported the detachment of their plug cap. :?

My import came with this routing (if it helps).
Seems to be ok not sure if it's the correct way.

That is the way that 'works' for me & I've never seen any other than when I briefly tried 'the other way' ;)
