Postby al pushpak » Sat Feb 24, 2018 9:40 pm

Hi, in the process of renewing my steering bearings & i noticed the bottom race is quite pitted so I want to replace it, does anyone know where I can purchase the correct one for my '59 series 1 from ?as they seem to vary from frame to frame. thanks for any info ;)

Thanks for the offer ;) I managed to source one from cam lam in the end, the type I needed was for the earlier series 1 which was also fitted to some ld's apparently (shorter inner sleeve) ;)

Well, the search goes on! thought I'd got a new lower fame cone bearing race sorted, ordered one from camlam which stated ld / early series 1 & when it arrived the inner sleeve was about 6mm longer than my original one which measures 14mm so obviously it won't fully fit all the way in because of the lip/ridge inside the lower fork tube! does anybody know who sells the correct one for my scoot thanks for any info ;)

If the length is the only difference, cant you get an engineering shop to cut the extra 1cm off.And are you sure that the length is 14cm and not 14mm,14cm is 5 1/2 inches.

Yes, it's 14mm!! sorry maths was never my greatest subject :? so as I've stated in my previous post the one I ordered is 6mm too high, yes I guess I could have it machined down cheers

For something as simple as that, you could do it yourself with a decent hacksaw and a file.

This is exactly why nothing ever fits you shouldn't have to start hacksawing stuff.

No, it's not "exactly why nothing ever fits" but it is a contributory factor.

Also, as the al pushpak is clearly having a bit of difficulty with this, I thought I'd use the forum to offer him a solution; which he may or may not take up.

Happy mother's day.
