Good time to get going with the new casa 135 kit in production! Supposed to be quite nippy!
That rear rack is rare thing & would probably buy a few of these new Vega performance goodies!
Saying that, I found mine tricky to build & it’s still not running right!

I am going to keep it standard. The engine casing has been welded up in the past and probably wouldn’t be the best example to put more power through.

The rear rack is a stainless copy of an original. It was badly made and I have just had a mate re-weld it but it’s still not a great fit and will need a bit more work.

I am going to make a start on the engine in the next few weeks, firstly by getting it vapour blasted.

I bought this project over 4 years ago now. It’s mostly all there. I have done precious little on it since. I have the original plate which is down on the DVLA website when it went computerised in ‘83 so, I think, I should be okay to get it re-registered on the original number. We’ll see though.

Well, having had to machine the lip on the drive side of the crank due to some pitting being evident (this then necessitated a non standard size double lipped seal) I now have the crank in. Had I had a decent front sprocket bolt and the correct sized dished washer for the layshaft, I could have progressed the build further.

But, I didn’t  :)

The moment I realised I had another problem. This time the endplate.

Turns out that my endplate was a Starstream one and not a Vega. That meant I had to take an angle grinder to the underside of the endplate to get first gear to clear the endplate. On the plus side, the endfloat was within tolerance with the only shim I had.

I now realise that there are two types of casing and, therefore, two different sets of chain guides

Oh the fun of Luna building! I was also very much in the dark hence why 4 years on its still not quite set up right! I’m sure (hope) we both think it’s worth it the end! I need to, I’ve got a bitsa I’m going to have a go at building in hopefully not too distant future!

Yep, it continues to fight me all the way. Finding a variety of non Vega parts in the box hasn’t helped and neither has my stubbornness to use old parts rather than lash out cash on new ones.

Goodness knows what has happened to the chain (Regina which, I think may have been original). I have never seen one so stretched. Mind you, given that the casing has clearly had a catastrophic accident in the past, I wouldn’t be surprised if this engine (well the bits that are Vega or Cometa) was used for racing or scrambling.

Plated in yellow passivate. I think the rear brake linkage is actually J range but it fits fine.

No. It was a local platers. The engine bits came out well but the fork links will need doing again eventually.

Cheers, Paul. I suspect that I won’t be seeing the bodywork back from paint anytime soon, give the seriousness of the situation, but I am going to put in a couple of online orders to get as much stuff done as I can.
