Can anybody please recommend a source of a suitable shock for my vega......an up rated one would be good

Scooter restorations & Rimini (probably others) have remade standards ones.

Updated I couldn't find anything off the shelf, I did a bit of research earlier this year & tried all sorts - pit bikes, autos etc but found nothing so very interested if anyone does know anything. I did find a firm in Manchester (I think) who tailor make one & wasn't really silly money (£110 msybe?). I could dig details out if you are interested?

There's a good front fork mod with cut series 3 springs if you are also wanting something for that end?

Look on the Luna site. Steve (trotsky) had some made.

would love to say that it was my idea but I pinched the idea of using series 2 links and chopped series 3 springs from a very clever chap as shown in the link below. I am bit worried that I'm not getting any smaller and original vega fork link bolts etc are a bit thin / weedy for a largish chap hammering a moped!
some mixed reports that with the below mod the forks are too firm and others say a greatly improved ride.

Hello, many years ago I found a rear shock at a motorcycle breakers yard that was a perfect fit,it's spring rate was even adjustable. Shall dig it out later to get some more info.

I looked for some years to find an alternative, I just couldn't go for the remade one at the price offered. My take on it was you could buy series 3 ones for less money and they would only have a "moped" quality and non service life without at adjustment. I finally bit the bullet and bought a Falcon shocker which is adjustable and serviceable and works a treat. Price was a lot more than the casa one but has the advantages mentioned and made with todays roads in mind.

When I had a Vega Royspeed supplied adaptor bushes so you could use std Li shock or variant thereof. Get some bushes made, it must be a cheap way to get a wide choice.

Does anyone have the dimensions of a Vega shock handy, eye to eye length, bush size and spring rate?

Robd on here had one made a few years back, adjustable type job for his vega

Bearing in mind I'm measuring an old knackered vega shock I get:
Eye to eye - 300 mm
Inner bush diameter - 14mm
Mounting hole with no bush - 22 mm
Spring diameter - 8mm.
Does this show load rating? Or is there something else?

Thanks for that, I was just doing what I expect others have done, checking what's out there to see if anything would fit from a pit bike/quad. Plenty to look at and some with suitable length, adjustable spring and damping on some. All seem to have 10mm mounting holes which is probably fixable but I'm not sure about spring stiffness.

Sorry to come so late to this but I don't own any type of Luna or small frame.

However, I have (somewhere!) a rear shocker from a Meriden produced Triumph that was obtained new, @ the time. It was purported to have been manufactured by Girling & is black with a chrome spring, adjustable for pre-load.

It was fitted with modified, solid, bushes to my Series III @ the time & even used for a race or two. It worked well but was considered too soft by the prevailing practice of the time. So, I followed the convention like everybody else, even though it only ever bottomed out on hard dips, two up. Now I can take a more reasoned view, the bottoming out may have been as much to do with being shorter, though it was definitely more compliant. Those days, the combined weight would have still been only about 20 stone....Ahhh.

I wondered whether it might be of any use.
