It's possible to skim the head and remove the head gasket to increase the CR, but as the combustion chamber is a very primitive shape, with no squish area, too high a CR could well lead to detonation of the fuel/air mixture. I'd keep it below 7.5:1, and maybe use a higher octane fuel as well.
