1955 Model 150D - Petrol tap problem

Postby Big Al » Sat May 15, 2021 10:04 pm

I put petrol and oil in the tank - no problem.
I turned on the tap, and flushed some fuel through without letting it go to the carb. Then I connected the bottom end of the pipe and let fuel through to the carb. The scooter fired up briefly.
I was going to make adjustments to the carb next day, but left the tap on overnight by mistake, and next morning fuel had leaked from the tap onto the floor, so I tweaked the two screws a little tighter on the side of the tap.
Now the tap will not allow any fuel through, either on main or reserve.
If I loosen the screws again, no doubt the tap will leak.
The tap is a brand new one, with new petrol pipe and new fuel. The tank was sandblasted clean before the outside was painted.
Any suggestions please?

Pull the tap, take it apart and see what's up. The supply tube is very small and is easily plugged up. Usually the plastic screen unscrews.

I've taken the new tap apart John, but can see no problem with it.
With the tap back in the tank, and fuel pipe connected to the tap but not the carb, I turned on to main tank and fuel came through straightaway.
With the pipe reconnected to the carb, the fuel stops coming through.
There appears to be an air lock or blockage in the carb, preventing the fuel flowing into the carb properly.

The carb has a float and needle valve. When the carb float bowl is full, fuel stops flowing.
