Drive side crank seal fitting model d

Postby mm man » Sun May 07, 2017 7:03 pm

Any tips on fitting the oil seal into the metal retaining plate as fitted to the drive side of the crank . On a model D
My first attempt has failed dismally.
Also can you still get the sealing ring that fits on the back or the plate facing the bearing and if where from ?
All help appreciated
Thanks

The oilseal plate is peined over on the side the seal fits from, you need to file this away so the seal will go in. Feel it with your finger and you will find the edge where it has been turned in. You will not need to turn the edge after fitting the seal, it will stay in place.
The plate seal is just an o ring. Slide it over the bearing last, after assembling the bevel, plate & bearing.

Cheers Rob that makes a lot of sense my first attempt was a complete nightmare to fit and seems to be fitted off centre so hopefully this time I will make a better job of it .
Thanks again for your time
Kind regards
