resistor/deflector

Postby eyeguy » Sat Jan 27, 2018 4:02 am

This is weird. The parts book shows the resistor and deflector as one unit. In the instruction manual for the LD 150 1958 There is no resistor in the wiring diagram

My bad. The parts book shows resistor and deflector as two parts. As shown in pic mine are together.

It's certainly weird - it looks like the resistor has been added later, hence the pop rivet holding it in place. I've never seen a resistor in that location - any idea as to its purpose?

the parts book states its a resistor for stoplight switch. when I removed it from the scooter someone had the speedo light going to it, which isn't correct. Again as I look at the wiring diagram I see no resistor.

Still a mystery

Just found another diagram. It shows a resistor going to the stop light switch. Hmmmmm

any thoughts

Could you post a good photo of the complete wiring diagram?

Hi eyeguy
Is your Ld a battery or non battery model?
My Mk3 battery model is wired with a round rectifier mounted on back of frame loop (bracket as identified in your previous posting relating to positioning of coil).

Are you missing the rectifier and has someone installed the resistor you have identified as a fix.Clearly from the photo you provided in previous post rectifier bracket exists.

On my m/c output from rectifier feeds the battery with feed to handle bar switch also feeding brake light switch .

I've never seen a wiring diagram for an LD with a stoplight - and again, I've never seen a diagram with a two-position (rather than a three-position) lighting switch! Where did the wiring diagram come from? I guess that as it's a non-battery model, it may be for a 125 rather than a 150, but it's very different from the wiring diagram for a UK Mk3 machine.

Hi again
I have a copy of wiring diagram I used a few years back headed “150LDB Mk3 Wiring Diagram - Casa Lambreata Loom E109/C
With Brakelight Switch. I will try and post picture later today.
This is the circuit I used on my 1958 LD150 Mk3 with battery and it,s still working today.

The resistor would seem to provide "some" power to the brake light circuit when the switch is unable to in certain positions. Why, I couldn't say.

Can you measure the resistance of the resistor?

Hi eyeguy
Have tried to post on site a wiring diagram of arrangement but having issue with Photobucket so unable to do so.
Had also intended to include some pictures of Installed rectifier and brakeswitch assembly.
If you would like send me a PM with your email and I will forward.

Thanks for all the input.
So the resistor measures 18 ohm. I got the diagram from an LD 150 instruction book. There are two diagrams one for battery and one for non battery. Now i am confused if the scooter was a battery model or not. Any way to tell? I did not get a rectifier with it, although it has a bracket to mount one. there is no place I can see to mount a battery. The switch I have I think is original although it doesn't match the diagrams.
The loom I bought has more wires than I need. I think it is for a battery set up. I assume I can remove those wires.

Thanks for help
