Euro Rally in Italy 2017

Just missed out on Euro 2016 in Germany due to not planning trip far enough ahead.
I would like to go to the Italian Euro in 2017.
Aside from riding my Li series 1 all the way what other safe and secure ways are there for getting to Italy
Ferry, train, rent-a-van etc.

From the UK to Italy its pretty much limited to riding all the way, vanning it from the UK through the chunnel or Zebrugge onwards or getting to Dusseldorf and using the Motorail service( http://www.seat61.com/Motorail.htm) which will take you to Verona (not too far from Adria) This service carries car and motorcycles and is pretty cheap.
If need be i can help with road routes.

There's an SNCF Autotrain that gets you from Paris to Briancon near the Italian border but you have to
travel separately from your scooter.

I have been toying with the idea for getting back if the passenger train times back to
Paris broadly match up.

There is a service offered where you deliver your bike to a company in Luton who load it on a specially racked out truck with several others. The truck then drives to Nice in the south of France and you get ferried by minibus to the airport for a flight to Nice and over night hotel waiting for your bike. It appeared to be about £450 for the return trip but not sure if that included the cost of flights and hotel.

I'm with Storkfoot, ferries booked with the intention of riding all the way there but using a train of some form for part of the return journey.

Last time I checked, the Rail service only ran on a Friday which would be a little too late for the rally weekend and then it's a week before you could return the same way.

Youre right Rich, most of these services have been chopped and this one too. It used to run three times a week but Fri and Sats only now sadly. So its arrive 5 days early and have to wait 6 days for return, not much use for the Euro now.

Another option for a group who doesnt fancy riding all the way though is a LWB Sprinter, not cheap to hire especially with european insurance and break down cover added but split 6 ways (six Lambrettas will go) and it'll work out relatively cheap.

All I'll say to you Storky is it wasn't me that toured Germany with 45 year old light bulbs....6v system....no spares (well ones with filaments in)?

Definitely riding there and would ideally like to ride back but it's the practicality of getting that much time off work

I'll be riding again; not sure with who but that doesn't matter. I was at the engineers yesterday discussing details of the new project; and am just taking a break from adapting the seat with a sledgehammer. That one is for you knowledge

I was planning to ride there, but there's a festival on the other side of Italy two weeks later that I'm going to. Getting enough time off work to ride there and back, then go out again a week later is proving difficult. I'd love to take my old Li back to Italy though, as long as it wants to leave again...

Camping in Italy in June is not something I'd relish either, it gets bloody hot in Italy in June!
