The only downside to Abejar is its in Spains green belt, its green for a reason. I personally wish it hadnt been changed from the Costa Blanca as its guaranteed perfect weather as it is where i am on the CDS especially in June. Lets just hope any rain holds off..

So the only place in Sunny Spain that has the ability to hold an event like this is somewhere no ones ever heard of in the middle of the rain belt? ?

I know the area well. The weather last time was exceptional, a hundred year storm. I think that the Spaniards put it in the region to show the other side of Spain one of beauty rather than a dry desert. Most peoples experience of Spain will be of the Costa's so this is a chance to see something different.

As for the weather, check on the forecast. There is a higher risk of rain than in the desert but it is not the monsoon period! Expect to be impressed by the area

At least at Gijon you could go and get an Hotel to get out of the rain , personally if I'm going to Spain I want the sun and sea, see you all in Poland , Abijar has no appeal for me but it's early days so I might just go with the flow , hopefully not literally.

It's only 898 miles from Watford. Google says 23 hours and 35 minuets drive...
Missed Milano this year, will be in Spain next year.
Anybody else from north London, Herts or Beds thinking of going?

Just checked the annual average weather forecast; it's more accurate than us guessing;

Soria in June average temp 28 degrees, average 8 days of rain a month and 30mm of rain.

Benidorm in June average temp 28 degrees average 3 days rain a month and 20mm of rain.

For reference; Gijon in June average temp 16 degrees 14 days rain a month and 60mm of rain

You can jump on a plane & go to benidorm anytime.....

Personally I'm looking forward to going somewhere a bit off the beaten track. Looking at pictures of the area, the scenery looks great & I'm sure our Spanish hosts will have done their homework regards the location & how to turn around a rain soaked event, afterall they do have form.... If it rains, it rains.. I won't be loosing any sleep over weather.
Can't wait.. only 360 sleeps to go!!

If you're going possibly going to be in Spain anyway nothing to stop you adding a couple of days to your trip either before or after the Euro to satisfy your need to visit the benidorm area. If you were contemplating going there anyway,if that had been the Euro destination you'd be in a win win situation. I bet you could round up a few chums willing to do the, " I want some sun!! & I'm not going home til I get some tour 2018"

Me I'd like to try Gijon again but I'm sure I'm in the minority. I suspect Benidorm was a Red Herring anyway. I spoke to a committee member from the Spanish Club who attended the Monza Rally and before the formal announcement in Adria; when I asked him about Benidorm as the location he said it had never been seriously considered and the committee they let the idea run so as not to spoil the suprise.

The trouble with this and many other forums is they are a great place to spread unsubstantiated rumour. Remember last year when we all assumed that the Italian venue would be Monza!

Doesn't work out time wise as we use the Euro as a halfway point on our adventures allready .

It was on the menu Mel at one point and a camping site was being looked at just on the outskirts but Abejar was a financially better proposition plus being off the tourist route offered more accomodation than a packed Benidorm would at this time of year. Malaga to Calais is a pretty regular run for me in the car and once north of Madrid the temperature and air changes quite considerably approaching the Pyrenees. The Soria province isnt bad at all but...the desert like CDS (where i am) the Costa Brava/Blanca would have provided perfect weather. Lets just hope there isnt a repeat of Gijon, by all accounts though that really was the exception rather than the norm..
