MOD'S Weekend August Bank Holidays

Postby Blackfeather » Thu Aug 03, 2017 5:36 pm

MOD'S WEEKEND.
Many now call the August bank holiday weekend Brighton MOD'S WEEKEND, with many that have been going there since the 64 bank holiday, it's is becoming lot more popular each year with many now not being able to do Isle of Wight with rising costs and costs of living, we're all now feeling the pinch and have to cut back where we can.

So

I just wonder why, either LCGB or other promoters haven't thought of doing it as an official yearly advent, (bikers have one in Oct).

It would be really great and really good for sellers, promoters, food, etc, and a nice weekend, it also attracts hundreds of admirers, coming to look at the scooters, as many will know, pull up most anywhere and someones got a camera out taking a pic of your lovely Lammy :D

From small acorns grow very big trees?

I did Brighton last year and thoroughly enjoyed it, the plan was to do the Isle of White this year but i've been coerced into doing Brighton again, should be good though as i've got an old music mate putting on a Quadrophenia night, something that he does a lot of but i've never been to one yet so very much looking forward to it.

the problem with Brighton for a national rally is no suitable place for a camp site near the town centre most of the big motorbike and car events are a one day thing so they have no need for camping

The whole MOD thing doesn't bother me personally.
Yea we've all seen the pork pie hat, target patch , mirrors lights etc etc etc
I can appreciate it's not to everyone's taste but don't forget it's a massive part of the history of scooters .
If someone wants to recreate a jimmy type scooter good on em .

The fact is that look is iconic .....

I'm pretty sure the New Untouchables moved to Brighton from the IOW to get away from the scooterists and the comedy mod brigade.
So surely moving a national rally to Brighton would kill the event almost instantaneously.

It would be as bad for them as it would be for us if Shipston became a national! Or 2000 modded PXs doing the Coast to Coast!

One life, live it to the full 8-)

If you want to do it, then do so. Life can be full of regrets.

Only been to Brighton once, it was a Monday & it was shut.

I doubt that Brighton is cheaper than the Isle of Wight. if you really want to "cut back" I'd suggest camping rather than booking digs. The Isle of Wight campsite is a great option. I'd recommend it having camped there the last 4 years.

I keep threatening to go every year. And every year forget about it until its too late. A few of my mates are going on the train, (they are not scootersist or mods) and say its a great atmosphere.

The last time I was in Brighton (1991) was managing a construction project in Hove (Brightwell Dispensers) for 4 days. 2nd day I thought I would hit the beach on my way back to the hotel in Brighton. So nimbly running down an embankment in a suit and tie, through a gate in a chain link fence, ran across the gravel beach to see naked men staring at me as I realized I had entered the gay nudist beach. Trouble is when I turned round to find the gate in the fence, it had disappeared, with onlookers on the right side of the fence grimacing at me. Things only got worse over the next 3 days, but amusing looking back.
