'Four' My Next Project / Recommission...

Postby Cosmic Wizard » Mon Sep 17, 2018 10:43 pm

Hi all :D

Firstly, this won't be started for a month or two as I'm recovering from a broken ankle after being knocked off my big bike   I will of course update as and when I do anything.

I have found out that being off work with ebay at my fingertips, and feeling fed-up because I can't play with my spanners seems to end up with a new project lol :D
I had a look to see what Marco & Steve @ The Scooter Emporium had for sale. At the time they only had a Series 2 LI and to my surprise, a Series 4. I've always been fascinated by the mystery that surrounds the Series 4, so after a phone call and a chat with Marco, a deal was done.

This was a couple of weeks ago, so fast-forward to Saturday morning; I popped down to have a nose and complete the purchase and this morning, the Four was delivered :D I will take some more pics when I can get about a bit better.

The scooter is all complete and original - I even found a couple of old Italian tax discs in the toolbox 8-) The engine is seized, so that'll be the first job  Then it'll be a case of recommissioning - i.e. new tyres & inner-tubes etc.

I'll leave you with a couple of pics :)
Cheers
Jim

Looks like a great project. Personally I would concentrate on getting back on my feet, good luck with your rehabilitation/broken ankle. The scooter can wait.

All the best

Cgt75b.

I don't mean to sound harsh but I too am recovering from a broken collar bone having fallen off a bike  So the priority atm is getting back to work.

Good luck.

S3/S4.

The way it was explained to me was that the Li150 special was an SX150 with an Li engine, and the S4 was an Li scooter with an SX engine.

I am sure there is more to it than that, but an easy giveaway is the clip-on Li panels.

A grown-up will be along in a minute to put me right....

I have quite an extensive insight into the Series 4 and if I can get the author's permission I will print it for you all to see.

Ok guys, I have now had permission to print it so the extensive info' on S4's is now on the main website at the top of the list of links headed "Inside the LCGB Site".

Many thanks to John Walklate and Pete Davies for allowing us to host the article.

wow, thats an amazing looking scooter!
keep as is!

regarding the series 4, i understand there were about 1400 made, a cancelled order or a sales promotion that didnt quite come off?
Anyway, i have personally seen about 7 S4s over the last few years, and i dont get out much, so they cant be that rare???
my cynical head says it would be quite easy to make a S4 replica - but why bother?
it is really an oddball!

Looks remarkably solid and very little rust from those pictures. I'm generally in agreement with restoring them to as they rolled off the production line but in this case I'd leave as is an get a proper project scooter. One like my SX150, that once taken apart has revealed an extensive can of worms.

Just a quick post to say thanks for the comments :) (Sorry it's been a while).

The 'Four' is on hold for the moment while I do my Series 1 which has jumped the queue. To cut a long story short, I was originally looking at a complete restoration-case of a Series 1, but that sold. The one I got was better, and as a result, will be quicker to get on the road than the Series 4.

I will update this when I get cracking.
Stay tuned folks! ;)
