I bought this off a guy last week, his Dad bought it for him when he was born! Unfortunately he painted it a garish yellow and purple in the 70's and it's been at the back of his shed for about 30 years. I'm going to give it a good clean under the panels and get it on the road rustoration style, but I'm not 100% sure what I'm going to do with the paintwork. I don't want to spend much money on it as I've got too many other projects but I don't think I can live with the yellow and purple! Has anyone got any ideas?? Maybe post some pics for inspiration? The rear rack and windshield will probably be up for sale soon so if anyone is interested message me.

Nice find , you may be able to strip the snazzy paint job off and you’ll probably find the original paint underneath , good luck . There’s probably how to vids on YouTube for stripping paint.

Nice if I could but he seems to have got quite a good finish on the paint job so I’m guessing he may have rubbed it down pretty well, it’s worth a try though.

Is that a series 3 kickstart pedal? Looks wrong to me. Nice find though 1960 Surrey registered.

When something like this comes up I think it would be best to sell it on to someone who would like the paint as it is, rather than consign another bit of history to the photo album. You could make a profit as well, I'd imagine. Although not original paint, it's still got historic value in its current condition.

Just my ten bob.

Seems a shame (to me anyway) to get rid of all that history....

Well I've done a bit of work on this and got it running this morning, you'd never believe it's not been started in 30 years, it sounds great. I also fitted a nice pair of original paint rims and front hub which look much better than the silver ones that were fitted. It's just going to get a clean up and made roadworthy for the time being and then I'll decide what to do about the paint.

I need another stand and a S2 rear hub cone if anyone can help?

Looks pretty much rust free. 8-)
An ideal back to original paint restoration.
Behind the horncasting is always a good place to look for the original paint colour.

I repeat my earlier post. This paint is more historically valuable than the "original" paint.
Leave it or sell it on. The future will thank you'
