German Market TV175 Rusto

Postby NorthernJordan » Fri Jun 21, 2019 9:52 am

I thought I would share some photos of my German Market Tv175 Rusto.

I bought this approximately 1 year ago after having seen it come up for sale on FB. It was a little bit of a punt as from the photos it was hard to tell whether i was buying a rot box or something special. German Market Lambrettas are a rare beast, never mind those retaining their original accessories. I hoped to clean it up and keep fairly standard.

It was looking somewhat unloved and sorry for it self but it cleaned up better than I anticipated.

The biggest challenge of the build was to free the engine up. Seized solid would be an understatement! I tried all sorts but it would not budge, in the end after having destroyed the mag housing I decided to cut the crank. This was made difficult by the fact I could only lift the barrel about 10mm from the casing face. With genuine TV barrels hard to find it important to retain it without breaking it.

DSC Scotty rebored the barrel and a oversize piston was sourced.

The build progressed slowly (mostly in the kitchen  ) with years of grim to remove at every stage.

The golf ball gem was in a poor state and damaged, so I sourced a remade one.
To get the look I wanted I dyed the clear plastic red and painted the innocenti logo (I've since made this neater).

Next step was the get the engine back in and get her running. She started well, but was ticking over rather fast and the carb needed plenty of servicing.

Image

I went with a fairly standard set up with the exception a TV rodded GP crank and electronic ignition.

A lot of effort went into tidying up the original paint and sourcing a suitbale seat cover.

Overall, really pleased with the outcome and managing to preserve this oddity.

The number plate holder is something else!

On the way to Seahouses...

Cheers, it's been nice to do something a bit different. The Performer had literally become more of a Adventure bike with scooter body work so enjoyed building something with trying to find some original details.

Would be nice to get some original Footboard extensions but I struggle with justifying the cost!

Also cheers rich for helping with the registration process

Jordan.
