Evening all,

This will be an ongoing thread of the recommissioning of my Fat Lass. She was bought from Marco & Steve at Scooter Emporium on the 8th June this year. I've had a Series 1 itch for a while, so I decided to scratch it  Plus it's my 40th this year, so decided to treat myself. She's completely untouched and original, apart from the Series 2 forks and front hub assembly and also the brake light switch - see the pics for this superb piece of engineering 8-) She is also a non-runner, but not siezed.

I'm currently waiting for the DVLA to register her and I've done some shopping already, so updates should be very regular.

The first job to tackle is the stand retainer plate which has snapped off from the cross-member.

Time for some pics ;)
Enjoy.

The day of purchase:

Remains of a speedo:

Nice hook for my shopping bag:

Sadly the rear carrier has seen better days:

Offside panel removed:

Nice period Italian engineering :D 8-) :

Nearside panel removed:

Stand retainer plate just hanging about:

Horncast removal:

Fortunately all but one bolt came out:

Brake pedal removal:

And off:

Legshield removed:

A better look at the broken plate:

Metal cleaned and new stand offered-up to line up brackets:

Splash plate fitted:

Bracket clamped into position. NOTE: this was the first attempt which failed. I drilled the holes too small and didn't get any weld through to the cross-member :( :
Image

As Shalamar once said - "The Second Time Around". Milled the welds down and made new larger holes:

And done! Decided to weld the sides of the plate too. Thank god for die-grinders and stopper. They make me the welder I ain't lol  Just covered it with some etch primer and laquered it for now:

New stand, feet and spring fitted:

While I'm down here, I thought I'd sort out this sheared off grease nipple:
Image

Drilled out with a 5mm twist drill, then re-tapped 6x1.0mm:

Tightened my nipple - Nice! :

That's all for now.
Cheers
Jim ;)

*** Update Time ***

I've not done alot today, but it's my birthday tomorrow so have tomorrow and Tuesday off work, so I'll do more then.
But, another significant job has been completed - the brake light switch. I did order one from Rimini Lambretta Centre, but unfortunately they were out of stock. I decided to get creative and modified a J-Range brake switch to fit my pedal. This will be totally reversable when I manage to get the right switch, but I think it doesn't look too bad and most importantly, it works.

I started with cleaning up the pedal, then cleared the fixing holes and ran a tap through them to clean the threads. I offered it all up onto the scooter to see if my idea would work. Unfortunately there wasn't enough metal to drill proper holes, but there was enough for me to grind out to locate around the screws. With a washer behind each 'hole', the switch sat level on the pedal and with two new screws, tightened up a treat. This was then put back onto the scooter to check the operation of the switch.

I removed the pedal, removed the switch then tidied up the excess metal. Once this was complete, I fitted a new brass bush, then re-fitted the pedal with new washers, spring and circlip.

Now for some pics :)

Hi all, thanks for your comments and replies, I thought I should pop in and give you a little update.

There has been quite a bit of progress with the series 1. I'm currently still recovering after having yet another operation on my ankle, but I do have some pics of the work I did before I went back into hospital, so I'll upload these over the next couple of days.
The main news though, after some ping-pong with the DVLA and an inspection, the scoot is now registered :D I've also been doing some engine and electrical work. It is now a runner (just), but I suspect a seal or two will require replacement.
I have just taken delivery of a new SIL mag housing, seals and bearing so I can replace the early housing, so that'll be the next job.

Take it easy,
Jim :D
