So the tank was about as rusty internally as you can get!... normally I would have binned it and got another without hesitation but I wanted to keep this as original as poss and where would I get an orig paint beige tank??

I hate that petseal stuff so thought I’d give this German stuff a try- it’s basically mild acid to get rid of rust rather than trying to seal over the top of it!.....

Bit weird filling your tank Up with boiling water from the kettle I must say!! :o :o

It says to leave it for 24 hours on badly rusted tanks but I left it over the weekend- wrapped in a blanket to keep the heat in as it says it works better with hot water and the longer you can keep it hot the better...

So this morning I flushed it out loads (the more a flushed it the better it looked), it’s worked pretty damn well!!!- not 100% perfect I would say it probably needs another go to be perfect but at £15 a time for the tank clean stuff I think I’ll just risk it with an in line filter for a while :D , iv used worse condition tanks in the past put it that way!

So well happy...

That looks good stuff. It seems to have done the job.

I assume you would have spotted any new rust holes during the flushing. I have a couple of rusty tanks I keep just for “sizing things up” and they are well and truly ventilated.

Is there any future for the original tap?

I can see some pitting inside but nothing as deep as to worry about holes, I have tried to clean the orig tap gauzes before without much success! And this one is really bad .. so with the new ethanol e10 fuel coming in , needing a good gauze/filler and Also thinking a may put a bigger motor in at some stage?? Or not but just incase I thought a new fast flow would be a better option...

Engine back in...Image

I tried to cut corners and be cheap so a bought a s/h bhpl ‘for a lambretta’.... turns out it was for a 4 stroke ffs!... still after speaking to euro carb I had a go at changing the what-ya-ma-call-it brass tube that is the only difference between a 4 and 2 stroke carb.... turns out it was really easy and straight forward to do!

Dude... at our age there’s no time to mess around!!. :D :D
Tbh tho I only rebuilt the engine, fitted inner cables, cleaned the tank, fitted new tyres and tubes....etc... A lot of people would have stripped it totally and cleaned it up before rebuilding with plenty of new bits but it’s been dry stored all this time and I wanted to keep the patina and originality.... I think I should have replaced the wheel bearing grease and fork grease tho!!... a job for another day.. maybe

Great job done there. Just to make it perfect take the front number plate off and put two on the mudguard. I will look so authentic fo its actual age.

I did consider it but my 2 other scooters- pacemaker and sx200 have black/white number plates on the mudguards so wanted it to be slightly different... also I wanted to break up the large area of beige on the on the front!... and where the orig tax disc is is in the way of number plates?... but yeah I’m not 100% happy with the front no plate something about it doesn’t quite work...
