‘Orange 67’ SX150

I recently bought this SX150 in rare as hens teeth ‘Orange 67’. I was going to do a conserved restoration but I think it might be too far gone. It’s certainly too big a job for me so might be up for sale soon.

Great find, yep you could preserve that fine with Ankor wax and ACF-50 , its not too far gone. Its worth sticking with it, would turn out great and shouldn't cost the earth to put on the road, just time and patience. Paul ;)

Great find. Because of its rarity I think I'd try everything to preserve it as it is.

I suspect you may later regret it if you sell it. It’s a lovely find.

Agree - cracking find and definitely good to be a conserved 'rustoration'.

nice find, definitely worth hanging on to and fixing up, seen a lot worse though, can be quite a daunting task when you have a box of rusty bits but do as I'm doing, start at the front (replacing any really knackered bits and work backwards), don't try to rush, just take your time and at the end you'll have a great looking scoot......................good luck 8-)

Obviously it’s your scooter to do what you like with it

It would be a crying shame to respray that given its rarity. I’d be bold enough to say if you were doing anything other than a sympathetic restoration then sell it to someone who wants to keep it as it is and buy a restored SX150.

Biggest issue would be the disparity in the two prices - no idea what price to put on that scooter but have seen SX150s at £4 to £5k

First thing I would do is strip it, check frame on a jig and then start cleaning it. It will soon start to come together.

Wish it was mine - best of luck with it

I have to say that I'm not a fan of rustorations although some manage to find a ballance. BUT, even I wouldn't consided repainting that even if it wasn't a rare colour 8-)

Repainting it is not an option. I'll loosely assemble it in the week and see how much love I feel, it might still end up on ebay

I’ve decided to put it on eBay, it starts at 2000 this evening (Thurs) for 10 days.

That finished a tad more than I thought @ £5.5k. You must be pleased.

You could buy a lovely scooter for that kind of money.

shows that the money is still out there for something a bit different. To be fair the chances of finding another original paint Orange SX150 are fairly slim, so the 4 or 5 serious bidders drove the price up

Well typical ebay time wasters, the winning bidder didn't make contact and I made a second chance offer (to a reasonably well known dealer) and they didn't respond. So I had a tinker today and this is how the worst of the side panels came up which is pretty amazing when you compare it to how it was. So I'm going to do the same to the rest of the paintwork, assemble and register it and go from there.

Probably your best option as there was a lot of negativity about it on Facebook. Looks good cleaned up.
