The Reading CBC log book is so good to have and with GT's it never suprises me how far apart the engine and frame numbers are as well as frame numbers beyond the last officially know number.
Never say never with Lambretta!

Many thanks for pleasant comments :D

I took a long time collecting genuine parts for the TV's restoration, many came from Horner's in Manchester - my local scooter shop until they closed in '99  The physical process of restoring the thing didn't properly start until 2002 - eight years is a long time to be collecting parts! I was pretty flush at the time, so the engine went to Mr Broadhurst for a bog standard rebuild with the correct barrel, head, gearbox and crankshaft - even the original points ignition was used. The body bits and all the other Gubbins went to Faircharm for a fresh coat of white paint. As is expected with a totally standard scooter, it went back together with ease and was soon MOT'd. It was back on the road in the Summer of 2003.

Cheers! Sadly due to arthritis they don't get as much use as I'd like, only do a few hundred miles each year these days :|

Nice - old dealership ads are quality! 8-) Are the old shops still selling bikes by any chance?

Onto the bitsa - this is what I paid 300 quid for back in 1989.

IMG_20200419_141430.jpg

Told you my hat was nailed on! What I got was an LI150 frame and forks, GP125 engine with DIY tuned 175 barrel, TV175 crank and a 30mil Dellorto + Fresco pipe. It had Spanish LI side panels, a GP mudguard, knackered legshields and TV/Li Special headset + horncase. The rear floorboards were pooped too.
I didn't care though as it was a Lambretta (of sorts) and the fact that it ran like a bag of nails didn't bother me at all!
Legshields and floorboards were sourced from Horner's, and I started on sorting the bodywork out.

Even the numberplate was wrong - the previous owner ordered it wrong, and rode it with an "A" stuck over the incorrect "B"!

After much fettling, new cables, tyres, all new trim, an engine rebuild all done by myself on a tight budget, it was ready for my 17th birthday in February 1990. My old fella painted the blue bits properly and I did the white bits with bodge tins. (exhaust was stove enameled)

Turned out pretty well for a first attempt, and served me well for a few years until that shonky motor popped!

They all seem to be either hairdressers or thrift shops round here now!

After 3 years or so, the TV175 crank ate its big end. As I now owned several scooters, this one came apart for a re-vamp. I'd acquired a TV200 block out of one of the many heaps that passed through my hands, it was in really good nick, as was the gearbox. It didn't have one stripped thread! This became the basis for the next motor. All bearings and seals were replaced, a new GP200 crank went in, and an AF electronic (battery version) went on. A stage 4 barrel was bored to take a Honda piston, and an early MSC Micron was bought. A standard GP 22mil carb was chosen to fuel it as I was fed up with all the muck that an open carb attracts.
Bodywork wise, I just added an SX mudguard that came out of one of Horners' lock ups, and the rest was resprayed British Racing Green with white bits.

It looked pretty smart, but it never ran 100% right with that carb. Many different combinations of carb/exhaust were tried as it evolved over the next 10 years or so - and I wasn't satisfied with any of them! :x

Haha funny you should say that! All the shops down the Oxford road are hairdressers, take aways or off licenses!!

This is how it sits nowadays - it had a standard disc brake fitted about 15 years ago, a clubman pipe and a 30 mil PHBH (both fitted about 5 years ago). The LI Special panels went on at about the same time as the disc brake. Most of the paint aside from the panels was done in 1993 - as you can imagine its getting a little tired now, especially as this one has seen a lot more use than my other scooters.
