Hi Holty and welcome to the forum,

amongst my many projects I am doing a water cooled 250 Lambretta and wondered if you could give me some detail on where you have mounted the radiator , pump etc?

looking at the scoop it would appear that you have fixed the radiator under the legshields and use a scoop to force air into the rad. if this is correct is there any tips that you could give me as it looks like a great solution.

I was also going to put the pump and water header tank in the legshield toolbox but need to see where the best place is for the thermostat?

your guidance on this would be very much appreciated.

regards Harry

hi harry,
sounds like a nice project, are you using a lambretta engine or another ? your right my radiators are in the box under the legshields, i had to move the brake pedal out of the way to create more space as i wanted 2 rads to maximise cooling, you might achive this with the pedal in place, i also had to put little pockets in the rear of the box for the stops on the centre stand to go into, i also fitted a fan, it was zinc plated before painting to protect against corrosion, there are holes in the bottom of the box so air coming in has to pass through the rads to get out, here are some pics from the build

my engine has an internal water pump, yours wont have, so you will need an inline water pump, demon tweeks sell a davis craig pump thats perfect, you will have an inlet and an outlet on your barrel, i would have the highest as the outlet and take that straight to your radiator, the return from the radiator is the best place to put your pump just before it goes back into your barrel. at the highest point in your pipework fit a t piece and and expansion tank.you might need an inline thermostat, just depends how good the radiator is and how much heat is created from your ts1, you might need to be running dc and a battery for the pump.

Great machine Holty.
I do appreciate a well engineered project like this. Fantastic job, I'm sure I'll get to see it at a rally somewhere this year when I get my University work completed.
I too had visions of shoe horning a bike engine into a Lambretta, unfortunately my welding skills do not match my electrical skills
I read the article in Scootering yesterday when it arrived, made for great reading.

I believe it's a series 2 with series one bits on it.
My mate Flea now owns it and it's been tuned by Ralp Saxelby

Spot on that bud. Was having a good look at brid, some don't look or sit right but this certainly does. Paint sets it off too.

Quality work, looks factory spec 8-) Many years ago i had an RD350LC PV and that was pretty much on/off power but think the non PV models had a smoother infeed of power. A mate still has an 85 RD 500LC V4 with 3K miles on it, rode that once and that was an awesome bit of kit, doubt the V4 would fit in a Lambretta frame though
Credit to you for some very nice work..
