"Something That I Said....

....something in my head."

Having had a Series 2 (sold a year ago as I just don't love the shape) and a Mk1 T5 over the last couple of years, the voices in my head have forced me to return to, IMO, the best of them all - the Series 3.

Anyway, when I am bored over the next 3 months, or so, I'll post up some pics of what I'm up to but, be warned, if you're after a full on expensive restoration, you'd be best advised ignoring this thread :P

Here's what it looked like the day I got it home:

Looks good to me just get the engine going and ride it! As for the Cheng "ditch finders", they are an 80's classic and should be preserved some will want them to get a true retro restoration.

I didn't take one, Martin. Not sure why. Anyway, too late it is already largely stripped.

Jim, not even you would risk riding any distance on on 20 year old Cheng Shin. Would you? LOL

Heaven knows, but the engine bar came out easily. In fact, whilst it looks pretty scabby the bodywork has all come apart pretty easily. One bolt did sheer off in the horncast and that is currently in to be spark eroded out. Leggies, and runner boards are with panel beater for a bit of work, well in the case of the runner boards, quite a bit!

Well, the next part of the trip involved whacking at struts with a rubber hammer. What can be better :P

I have straightened up the struts and one does need a weld but, other than that, the frame is in good nick. I also got time to strip the front hub, clean it all up and stick new shoes in. I'm going to give a reverse pull drum a whirl.

It was missing panels so bought a remade set. Looks like I may need to do a bit of work to get them compatible with the handles though

use extra nylon washers , the type that goes on the outside on the panel without the tube later panel and plastic hooks (sic). Put two or three inside
to take up the slack, the earlier handles are superior in IMHO, done this several times

That's what I was thinking too. I just wasn't sure whether they'd need to go inside or outside to line up. Thanks.
