Had a mess with some 70's paint techniques I will be using on the final paint job

I take my inspiration from what the Lowriders in the states were doing in the 70's.
If you think before the internet we have always been behind the yanks so custom paint techniques that were being used in the 70's wasn't really getting to us until late 70's early 80's.
Metalflake was always about but tinting it with candies then the many pattern styles fish scales, lace, endless lines, fogging, rag rolling, ribbons etc
In the last 10 years in the states there has been a massive Lowriding revival and I've been watching it in awe of the paintjobs. Spent many hours working out the many different styles etc

Also have a new addition to the build.
A piece of custom scooter history, engraved by the master Don Blocksidge its the quick action throttle from Red Hot the original Coke Racer.
Not sure if I will use it for this build or the next one?

Really like what you're doing with it. I'd really love to re-create the paint job from my old GP (red vreeble over silver glowble) but unicorn horn seems to be easier to find.

Yeah you can get vreeble from the states but that's about it, shame really.

I've never seen any red unfortunately
I'd accept the hassle of getting it from the US if you know somewhere that does red!

Well massive thanks go out to Knobby here.
I've been speaking to him through pm about Brazilian Love Affair and he offered me an old set of panel badges off the bike.
To either use for mine or as a bit of memorabilia.
So chuffed with these even tho they are a bit faint.
I think I might re-bend them and have them engraved. A little bit more of 80's custom history on my own build.







No progress in a while as funds are tight after Christmas, took a few more bits in for chrome plating just to get in the que

Need to get to Broadies and get some new damper mounts and then up to my brother in laws with the forks to get them welded up.

First time I've read this build thread.
Certainly has evolved quite a bit on its journey and can appreciate all the different looks the bike has taken on along the way.

Thanks very much, I appreciate your comments.

It's not been done in a way to jump on fads, it's always been about the evolution of the Scooterboy.
After this build it will go full blown engraved show scooter hopefully.

Just struggling with time and money at the minute.

Been quiet with this of late as I've been too busy doing paint on other scoots etc

But picked up a chop frame on Friday.
My thinking is a quick blast over and build from my GP to get get me back on the road and spend more time on the bodywork of the GP.

So here's said frame




Now I just need another frame to butcher so I can get s stretch and rake on it

Had a spare 20 minutes yesterday to chuck the engine and hub in the chop frame.
You can see now that it requires a rake and stretch as it's all up in the air like a scolded cat at the front.
Long and low is what's needed!!

Mock up with a couple of tanks I have, the firstis the one I intend to use




Coffin tank

Lurvin the chop frame and peanut tank. Coffin sits nice as well. Me personally, not diggin the forks set up, always preferred long forks straight out of the stem, as you know it's your chop, your creation. I like sit up and beg chops, Jacks Back, I like raked chops, Illusion. Me, I'd extend it, rake it, Beedspeed drops and long forks out of the stem. But I also shouldn't have had 3 quick pints when I got out of me garage and looked on me fone.

I was the same with the forks but there growing on me now, think they will look better once the mods are done.

It's going to be 70's American inspired so high stock, possibly goosenecked. With the rake and stretch I think it will look a lot better. Just need a donor frame or suitable tube now.

Tank will e the peanut but I also have a longer coffin tank but that will need more work to make it fit.

Bars will be straights out of chain if it will work as I'm doing it themed around Hellraiser.

By a bizarre twist of fate, Nobby actually had Jacks Back for sale £1K at Worcester Parts Fair 10-15 yrs ago, and i never bought it. He came across it in Reading i think.
He and a mate had 2 chops for £2K deal on at Worcester.

Looking at pics now the chop Pride is roughly how I want it to sit frame wise

Think Kris Green (Mental Engineering) does frame extension pieces. Do a search on FB for him or Lambretta Chopper Club on FB.
