GoodThing 80's cutdown build

Postby SlackerThePinstriper » Mon Aug 14, 2017 1:35 pm

As some of you know I run an Instagram page called GoidThing 80's.
It's a page dedicated to the glory days of British Scootering scene. I cover old rally pics and custom scooters of the day, it's a passion I have. Particularly as I was only born in 83'.

So I have stated my GP and a chop but there going to take time so thought I would pull the cutdown to the front of the cue.
I've had this frame and parts for the best part of 15 years and not really done anything with it.

So let's begin. It's a 72 Jet on an L reg.
It belonged to my oldest sons Grandad. It was lovingly known locally as the green'un due to its early 90's Dord Le Mans green colour.
I was always going to restore it to its original style but thought I need to do it to suit me!!!

I started by welding all holes in the loo and the toolbox door and had the petrol tank modes to a side mount. Image

A few parts I've collected for it plus chopped down snett

I got this quick action throttle earlier in the year for my GP but I'm going to use it on this first.
It was originally in the Coke Racer bike in the 80's (around 86' I think) engraved by Don Blocksidge it is stunning and the chrome is still in great condition.

I will also be having a few other parts engraved to match

I picked my completed seat up from my trimmers on Sunday.
I'm very pleased with it but think it will need to be redone in upholstery velvet if it will be used often.

Took my headset bottom into work yesterday to paint strip and degrease it.
Also stripped the chrome from my headlight rim and had the handlebar clamp derusted and finished In straight chrome.

Then bolted it together for a little mock up.
The headset bottom is going to need a little more welding on the corners.

A new job has meant any time on this has been on hold at the moment but with Brid just around the corner my interest has sparked again.
Before I left my last job at the chrome platers I had done parts polished ready to send for engraving.
Just designs to sort then I will send them on.
