Dodgy

Postby bolzenanker » Thu Dec 14, 2017 5:59 pm

So I thought I'd share my new project, always enjoy seeing others machines come together so, what the hell, for good or bad, this is what I'm up to.

The seed was sown in Adria, on the Custom Lambretta stand, the scooters they produce, the fat ones anyway, really appealed to me. The clean lines, the flawless paint, the trick bits, the LD front mudguard, even the drops. I stood there thinking 'I like that', as I'm sure many others did.

Anyone not familiar with their work here's a couple of pics.

Nice, aren't they.

Anyway, I wanted to build my own, I have limited skills but would much rather have a go at most things myself than just pay someone to build it for me, and as I normally only ride ratty scoots I am going to need to learn a little patience. No 'just build an engine and chuck it in a rusty wreck and ride it', this time I wanted to go in a different direction.

I've got a theme, a plan, and it's all about this picture, the colours, the look and everything about it is what I'm hoping to reproduce in a Lambretta.

I didn't want to buy a complete scooter and strip it, I wanted to start with just a frame.

Took the risky step of getting all new panel work and started mocking up.

That brings us up to date. I've been playing with damper brackets trying to squeeze dampers under the narrow LD mudguard, this is still work in progress. Once that is sorted a proper dry build to see how it all fits together. So far the new panelwork has been an excellent fit, only had to adjust one of the frame struts which seems to poke out to far? Then it'll be strip the paint off the frame and suss out what rear light to use. Was thinking of blending something in but already have a Series 1 rear light would be a darn sight easier. We'll see.

First impressions, really good, the dry build will hopefully go smoothly.

Thanks Gav, gonna have to smarten up my image a bit, although as I hate cleaning scooters so much it may never get out of the garage!

Thanks Andy, I have a friend who can help with the paint, probably the only thing I won't do myself as I don't have the skills for paint or the patience. However this is gonna take a while to put together and come the Spring I may fancy giving it a go, we'll see. Hopefully discuss it with you at some random European petrol station sometime, that's where we usually bump into each other. :D

All that's happened this week are these, chrome SIP tubeless rims with Avon tyres, low speed rating but once I've got my white tyre pen out they should look the part.
