Black and silver reg plates and where to buy

Postby Matk » Sat Dec 07, 2019 4:04 pm

Hello and first post to the forum, i did search but came up with little info.

Ive just had the registration document through for my 67 sx150 and im looking to purchase a black and silver plate. Theres nobody local that sell them so my only alternative is online.

Where do people purchase from and if possible a guide price?

Tippers all day long. Old family business in Devon. You will have to send a copy of your V5 by email. About £30, they are pressed ally.

As far as I know, Jepsons, Sheffield and Tippers are the only ones who still have the correct pressing machinery. Lots of pressed plates come from Jepsons, whoever you source them from in the first place.

Is it permissible to have a Non-Standard size black & silver plate ?
The standard 9" x 7" Motorcycle plate is just a bit too wide for my 64 Cento, and catches the rear edge of the side panels, when removing them.
Ideally, I'd like a 8.5" x 7" pressed Aluminium plate, (which would be a perfect fit in the Number Plate mounting area), but not sure if that would be Road Legal, or if anyone can make them that size.

There is a minimum gap between the digits that is permissible. I can’t recall what it is but it’ll be on the internet somewhere. Personally, I’d just ask Tippers. They’ll know whether it is possible given your actual digits (it’s easier to squeeze in a 1 than it is an 8, if you know what I mean). Also, Tippers are happy to make up non standard sizings.

I suspect that as it is only 1/2 inch, you’ll be fine.
