rear wheel

Tried to get my rear wheel off today and could i hell as like shift it,any tips on how to get it off...tried gently persuading it from the back side by tapping it round with a block and hammer but to no avail

Assuming you mean the hub rather than the wheel?

It is torqued down hard onto a tapered cone which grips the shaft.

There's a workshop tool that screws into the three holes in the hub which uses a big bolt to press on the end of the layshaft and breaks the hub off the taped cone.

If you actually do mean the wheel itself are you sure you took the right four nuts off?

It is actually the wheel rim that i can't get off the hub!!

Sounds like you've taken off the wrong nuts. Put those ones back on before you take the others off otherwise you'll be in a right piggle

Ahh. That could be it. There are eight nuts on the wheel. Four hold the rim halves together. The othe four hold the complete wheel to the hub.

If you have removed the wrong four nuts, then the wheel won’t come off the hub. Refit the nuts before removing the other four nuts.

I think this was what Darla was eluding to.
