remove both running boards, exhaust to give access to the two small screws on the flywheel side and the 13mm bolt below the spark plug. Then prize out the rubber bump stop and remove the rear shock. The cowling will then be loose enough to give access to the two 11mm exhaust manifold nuts and the cowling should slide off.

The only detail I would add to Coaster’s reply (hi Colin), is that with a standard exhaust, the U bend of the exhaust has to be removed at the same time as you remove the head cowl. One of the exhaust studs is very easy to get to. The other is a complete git. Both are 11mm, but the one on the flywheel-side is stupidly inaccessible and can only be loosened (or tightened) by one-twelfth of a turn at a time. It is a very boring nut to adjust.

Hopefully, you have a nice pipe like a BGM box pipe or one of the expansion pipe with a stub-flange bolted to the exhaust port of the barrel, cos these are SO much easier to live with.
