After reading good things about Threebond or Yamabond 1103 I decided to buy some to use on my current build to seal around the base packer (RT 195 with 60/110 crank) well what a load of complete and total shite! Cleaned and degreased the packer, smeared some of this shite on it first impression it looked like and smelled like grey primer, a few seconds after I applied it it dried to a dull grey colour and as I was handling the packer to slide down the cylinder studs the feckin stuff was coming off in lumps on my hands.
Enough was enough, I scraped the packer clean and used ht silicon instead so now I'm wondering what could have gone wrong? Bad batch, old stock? How do you boys get on with it?

Never had a problem with it ?

I use a kids paint brush to help smear it about and have always been pleased with the results.

It does remain "tacky" and is meant to be semi-drying so it shouldn't have hardened......seems you may have had a bad batch (or out of date ? not sure on the shelf life).

It's a good product and I wouldn't discount it for further use.

I wonder if there might be some counterfeit tubes out there.

I haven't experienced the problems you describe when using threebond.

Ive just checked the tube but cant see any clues, maybe i dident leave it long enough before trying to join the two parts together.

Top stuff can't fault it for engines, can be a bit messy but no worse than silicon

I use Threebond but it's 1215 not 1104 as stated. Is this the difference maybe?

Yes I must have got the wrong stuff, it's "Neo 1104" I cleaned an old cylinder yesterday and applied some to the top face as a kind of trial just to see if I simply didn't leave it long enough before handing but this morning I scraped it with my nail and it came straight off so it's gone in the bin (before I forget how shite it is and use it again!).

The 1104 has a higher heat resistance rating than the 1215, so better for cylinder's and other hot places.

I used to have the 1104 Neo but found it very stringy to use so changed to the 1215 and not had a problem on base or head joints.If I use a shiny alloy base packplate I Scothbrite the finish off as the Threebond seems to stick better.

Always used the 1215 on base head and exhaust with no issues at all.
