Has anyone tried one of these from a model shop? If so, was it successful?

I've got one on the Jet Paul, cheap model boat one off ebay and works a treat, loctited the grub screws

I am going to start off by trying one of these:

If it doesn’t quite work, I’ll probably get an extension welded on the lever too.

Those are the ones I use Paul.

Looks like this has worked but time will tell if it holds up. As usual, it took plenty of fettling.

I spoke too soon. Twice I loctited the grub screw in on the petrol lever side. First time it came loose but I spotted it had and loctited it in again. Second time, grub screw made a bid for freedom. That was with a small hole drilled in the lever to house the grub screw. I don’t think they can withstand the vibrations.

I am going to go back to the usual arrangement but with the MB extension.
