are panel filters too restrictive

out playing today trying to sort main jet on rt225.went down to 120 main on 28mm delly and still bogging out as soon as main comes into play.took panel filter off and back up to 125 clean to WOT and going to try 128 tomorrow.prefer to use filter if possible but if it restricts top end performance so much is it worth it?

On a 23hp engine it dropped to 22.5hp with a filter, which is no real difference compared to the benefits of a filter.

what kind of filter is that with Mick?mine is a panel filter on a gp.

I have a Breathsweet on my Avanti under GP panels. The manifold is a short with a slight down draught which tilts the carb and hose back a bit.
If you're using a mid range tank send it backwards as above.
I have the BGM hose / filter arrangement on my RT with the MB flange manifold - no clearance issue on my Lince.

Solution I found to the filter under panel if you want to run a breathesweet or something similar is to go with the MB flange inlet manifold. It pulls the carb in towards the engine by a good 1-2 cm. Just enough to stop the elbow being restricted by the panel. This was on Italian LI150. I run an elbow in the upright position with a breathesweet.
The only issue I had is the PWK carb filter bowl then fouled on the cylinder cowling, just needed a slight dent modification to accommodate that. PWK filter bowl is a bit deeper than a Dellorto.
On my TS1 I use a chiselspeed panel filter.

I can vouch again for the Breath Sweet. I was very sceptical when I saw a post that intimidated it improved performance from being just open (possibly from Adam W, but don’t quote me on that please) but, I have to say, my real life expert on a GT186 endorses that.
Do make sure, by whatever means, it isn’t squashed by the panel though.
I also have had a RamAir through my panel on a TS1 for several years. I suspect it may well be a bit restrictive but I am willing to give up a little performance for some degree of safety.
