standard 200 PHBL 25 High Temps half throttle

Postby Bilko » Wed Jan 08, 2020 10:05 pm

Bit of a conundrum.

I'm running in a standard 200 with 25 PHBL With hose and filter and a Scootopia Ancillotti pipe.

Timing 18 Dregrees

Currently trying...

AQ266
D24
50 pilot
102 Main Jet
2.50 Float Valve

2nd clip down it runs fine all the way through, but if I hold at half throttle the temperature soars over 650C. (The thumb choke helps bring the temp down).

So I moved the needle clip down and it gets boggier 3/4 throttle and the temperature at half throttle still soars

I was checking carb settings and I noticed some have an AQ268 with a D22 needle. I would have thought that the leaner needle with a shorter taper wouldn't help my half throttle issue. Or have I got it wrong?

I have an AQ268 on order (I ordered one a couple of weeks before Christmas, but I've lost it). I have a selection of needles, the ones being used by most are D22/D24/D26.

Some of you will remember that I've got some sort of half throttle curse with pretty much every engine I use. (Except my TS1).

So, I'd like some opinions and education on setting up the carb.

Im running a rapido 225 with LTH reed and BGM V3 clubman, i was ruuning aq 266 but had a slight seize going up a long (but not really steep) hillaround half throttle, was advised to go up to AQ268 but stay with same needle , maybe drop it down one,
Now running
main 118
needle D29 2.0
atomiser AQ268
pilo51
slide 40

Now moved to AQ268 and D22 which helped a lot, but I still get this high-temperature mid throttle, although it does rise slower than before. Half throttle and up is ok, but leading to half throttle is getting too rich, so I can't raise the needle.

Try a different exhaust Robert too rule out heat bleed ;)

Have you tried a D29 needle I would if I was you.

I would be inclined to run a 300 float needle valve also, just my tuppence of course.

Good luck with the black art of jetting

I've been riding it without changing anything yet Shane. Hopefully tomorrow, but I haven't got an EGT at the moment, but should have next week.

I have a Casa 210(same as a casa 185,but for a big bore case)I use a PHBL 25 with a clubman exhaust system.
