New Rings Tricks?

Postby Granty » Tue Apr 17, 2018 8:00 pm

Troops -- Put new rings in the special - 200 Indian stage 4 barrel & standard piston -- already snapped 2 rings by getting them stick in the inlet port putting the barrel on, any tips with "easing the rings" past the inlet port when sliding the barrel on? Cheers G

Been there, done that amd screamed loudly. I find it easier to assemble the piston in the barrel first.

Cheers Chris -- how did you get the rings past the inlet port and in the barrel & get the gudgeon pin through the con rod? for mine it looks like the rings will still be below the inlet port fitting the piston in the barrel when I put the gudgeon pin through?

Hope this makes sense? -- cheers G

Sometimes you have to physically have to push the ring ends into the piston with a small scredriver so the piston moves past the inlet port

Ah -- got it now - just couldn't see how this was going to work, I had already bolted the inlet on and then inserted the piston, understand now -- G

Slip a thin feel gauge into inlet to assist rings over port edge
