Chiselspeed CST3

Need help with a tuning kit, how do you tune your scooter, which kit should I choose, and all general tuning and modifcations questions are for in here.

I'm using an Avanti head and it's not easy getting to the bolt on the cowling. I had to grind the head thinner on the bolt. Initially it touched the casing too but strategically placed washers helped that.

It fits fine on the AF Mammoth head. Just touches the fibreglass cowling but nothing to worry about.

I see what people mean about speed bumps not being your friend though.

Well, my TS1 has now come alive at under 6000 revs and hard as I may try, the horrible flat spot around 4200 revs seems to have been consigned to history.

Early days. I haven’t managed to get much over 6000 yet because I live in an urban area and the carb was jetted for the Supertourer. I don’t want to open it up just yet although I suspect I’ll need a smaller main jet. I’ll report further in a few weeks. It’s on 4.6 final drive ratio at the moment.

My ADS3 on the GT240 I run 4.3 final drive but I also had to go up quite a bit on the main jet from what GT recommend. 148 to 160.

I love it, it's not going to set the world alight on top speed but it will sit at 65-70 on the motorway comfortably all day at 5500 - 6000 rpm. Bearing in mind at that it still has about another 1000 rpm of useable power left and the mid range power is real fun to use.

Is that the heat proof powder coating they mentioned on their web site or have you sprayed it yourself ?

VHT paint. Protects against the heat but not the weather. It won’t look like this by the end of the Winter.

Yes I’ve done mine but it doesn’t last 5 minutes does it. I’ll be ordering a CST3 at some point over the winter and am drawn towards the heat proof powder coat but very much doubt even that will last long on the down pipe, I’d go for the nickel plate but don’t really want to drop another £80 taking the exhaust to over £400.

Not sure what the TSR pipe was painted with but it seemed to last well, shame the CST3 isn’t available in stainless.

Went for a blast down the motorway this afternoon. Was still pulling and revving well at 7000 revs by which time I was going to have to consider pulling in to the third lane. Instead, I eased off and headed for home.

I wish I’d discovered this pipe years ago.

That said today I set off to Hawes (55 mile) for breakfast and the GT reeds broke yet again. No fun. Least it keeps going all be it at 20-25 mph and I got home without pushing!

Sounds just the job, i was a little bit worried that it would run out of steam just after 6000 but that isn’t the case.

Doesn’t Darrell Taylor offer a thicker 0.4mm reed for these now? Was a thread on fb about it a while ago, basically the supplied reeds are to thin and flex excessively hitting both the reed block and believe it or not the piston!

Don't know about that but RICHARD Taylor advises doubling up on the reeds if you are running an expansion pipe.

I have double reeds. Just spoken to Richard now and he advises against thicker reeds.

It’s not a massive problem but I’d let my spare reeds at home.

The biggest problem was not getting home until 11-15 and having my breakfast then. I was starving.

I’m going to strip it out now and see which reeds have gone.

Recently fitted a new cst3. The fit was spot on although i did drill two extra holes in the stub flange to mate it to my 4 stud RT cylinder.

I was slightly concerned about ground clearance before it went on but it sits just right and without clouting the ramp on my table unlike some others I’ve fitted.

On the road it pulls harder off the bottom than the NK road i was using but runs out of steam at about 7300 as opposed to 7600 on the NK.

Only done a few miles so need to dial in a bit when the weather improves but so far I’m very impressed.

I put one on my S2 Rapido 238. Transformed the engine. Great bit of kit. Sounds great, pulls really well.
Just ordered the CST15. Under kickstart MQ210 for my S1. ( thanks Martin for all your help )
