I have a AC/DC intellio convertor purchased from Anthony Tambs, can I use it to charge some sort of battery, say a12v 3.4ah re-chargeable acid battery or similar to the ones MB is selling or would I need to fit something to stop it overcharging the battery ?
Whilst I am obviously after help and comments, please keep them to ladybird book level !

I think the best person to address that question to is Anthony Tambs.

I wouldn't think so, that device is to provide a stable DC supply for gadgets.
If you want to charge a battery then use one of these, supplies AC to your harness as normal and a DC supply to charge the positive side of the battery, the negative battery terminal goes to earth.

I assume your scooter is AC, what are you trying to achieve with a battery?

I want to have a stable power supply, ideally when the scooter is at rest as well, the convertor is fin but my lights go dim when my Sat Nav is first switched on and then stabilise,I think it is using a lot of the available power.

So I may be better off ditching the convertor and going back to using a rectifier of the type suggested ?

The Intelliconverter is only really good for the SatNav.

If you want the lights not to go dim, then ideally I would be looking at doing a full DC conversion. If your scooter is AC you can't just connect a DC battery into the same wiring for the lights that are supplied with AC.
So you need a stator that's had a DC conversion done (earth removed and brought out of stator on an extra yellow wire) then you a Wassell/Podtronics rectifier to give you DC to your charge your battery, then the wiring harness connecting to the battery.

I do not reall want tostart messing about with the stator, which is Varitronic.

I run a tambs dc output regulator to charge battery, easy as...
check with him or Broady 1st encase there's a difference with varitronic.
better safe than sorry.

When you say regulator do you mean one of his converter ?

No 12v regulator with dc output.
I think ant says you can't run stuff direct and need a battery or a capacitor.

Cheers,just got a BGM regulator and a battery.Will have a play tomorrow.
